Overview

The Operations Buyer Planner is responsible for all production and planning related services for the manufacturing site. Plan/schedules all production related activities to support delivery of the production plan and ordering of MRP materials. Orders materials and schedules deliveries according to plan. Works collaboratively with production to maintain valid operating schedules. Defines, plans and executes projects for improvement of scheduling and planning processes.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for maintaining the master production schedule and shop floor schedules for operations based on project forecasts and sales orders, on-hand inventory, safety stock requirements, raw material availability, available capacity, customer service goals, and other established planning parameters
  • Management of sourcing and purchasing for all materials inventory and non-inventory for the category/site assigned based on the plan defined by the Supply Chain Manager.
  • Forecast purchases based on previous projects and propose purchasing plans based on forecasts.
  • Negotiates terms and conditions, pricing and delivery.
  • Manages overall supplier performance and leads supplier relationship management activities
  • Identifies and leads projects to improve upon efficiencies in manufacturing involving materials, pricing and quality
  • Drives resolution of raw material issues, reacting quickly to resolve issues
  • Communicates to site leadership and operating teams when material issues have the potential to impact operations
  • Organizes and maintains filing of purchase orders, RFQs, change orders and all other contract documentation
  • Performs all job functions in accordance with SOPs and in compliance with financial requirements
  • Coordinates / leads various projects related to the Planning function. Works closely with Process Engineering to improve productivity through measurements, analysis, development and implementation of tools supporting cycle time reduction.
  • Receives little supervision for most assignments. Receives general instructions for non-standard analyses and projects. 
  • Adheres to all applicable procedures, company policies and any other quality or regulatory requirements.  (For example: IAS, OSHA, HS&E, etc.)

  • Successful development and maintenance of site’s Production Plan and Shop Floor Schedule
  • On-time delivery of Production Plan commitments

Qualifications

  • Effective team player who possesses strong collaboration skills.

  • A proven track record in supply chain management with focus in driving continuous improvement in operations.
  • Project management skills.

Requirements: Required Education and Experience

  • BS/BA Supply Chain, Business, Engineering, or related field.
  • Work Experience: 5-7 years of relevant experience required.
  • Experience with Planning IT Systems desired, specifically in the areas of Production Planning, Planning Master Data (i.e. Bills of Material and Routings), and Capacity Planning.
  • Experience with writing/implementing procedures or policies.
  • Possesses an understanding of supply chain and inventory planning principles including MRP experience.

Preferred Education and Experience: (indicate educated based on requirements that are job related and consistent with business necessity.)

  • Strong communication skills desired
  • APICS certification a plus
