Overview

This is a dual role position in which the individual has overall responsibility for site manufacturing and is also a Product Manager for one or more product lines. As such, the individual will be responsible for the supervision and optimization of the site’s safety, production, site supply chain, reliability and cost effectiveness of manufacturing assets, and organizational development activities, to ensure the continuous flow of high quality product from the plant in compliance with all regulatory requirements.  In this dual role, the Operations Manager is responsible for all site Manufacturing and has responsibility as a Product Manager for one or more production cells. Thus, direct reports include other Production Managers, shift supervisors and some cell leaders.  As the highest-level manufacturing leader in the facility, the Operations Manager is expected to have significant knowledge and experience in Lean manufacturing processes and techniques. The individual is also expected to be an excellent communicator and motivational to the employees and lead by example.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for all Manufacturing activities in the plant on all shifts and supervision of Product Managers and shift supervisors.
  • Responsible for site safety. Ensure compliance with all OSHA, Environmental, and all City, State and US regulations.
  • As a Product Manager, responsible for activities within your value stream for all shifts and supervising non-exempt employees on specified shift
  • Direct and coordinate daily operations of manufacturing activities and able to establish production plan on a quarterly basis
  • Deliver quality products and services on time to achieve business objectives within budget
  • Responsible for organizational and team development, performance monitoring and review, personnel accountability and disciplinary action.
  • Documentation of operational practices and training programs.
  • Works with cross functional production teams proactively to identify, communicate, and resolve potential operating issues that may impact production.
  • Coordinating manpower for all shifts
  • Daily Gemba walkthroughs
  • Addressing urgent action items identified during Gemba walks: safety, cleanliness, Hr-Hr & SQDC boards and proper operation technique
  • Work will consist of greater than 50% floor time, less than 50% administrative tasks
  • Gives direction to Shift Supervisors and other Product Managers

Other Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Ensuring that cell operation is consistent with Lean manufacturing practices
  • Daily meetings & reports
  • Time clock management
  • Running daily cross-functional production meetings
  • Mentoring and coaching personnel, specifically other Product Managers, shift supervisors and working Leads
  • Shift hand offs

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience working with a multifunctional team
  • Demonstrated exceptional written and oral communication skills
  • Knowledge of Lean manufacturing philosophy and techniques and ensures that they are implemented consistently in his/her area of responsibility. Strongly supports and encourages participation in kaizen activities and promotes the Lean initiatives to company employees.
  • Maintains visual control in the working area per requirements. Encourages teamwork within and outside the department to improve processes and performance.

Competencies:

  1. Industry knowledge – Knowledge of the manufacturing industry.
  2. Knowledge of Lean manufacturing principles – Knowledge of Lean tools and principles (Takt, Flow, Pull, Kanban, Visual Control, 5S), Six Sigma, Value Stream Mapping, Material Management and Kaizen events.
  3. Employee Management – Experience managing 15+ exempt and non-exempt employees including direct reports and indirect reports.
  4. Analytical, Problem Solving and Decision Making Skills – Ability to solve complex problems, clearly communicating decisions based on business needs.
  5. Results Focused - Drive to achieve or exceed targets and goals within determined timeframe and quality expectations.
  6. Leadership Skills – Ability to lead a cross-functional organization towards established company goals and objectives and ability to hold people accountable to achieve those goals.
  7. Professionalism/Communication Skills - The ability to behave professionally with all levels of the organization. Demonstrate high standards and good communication skills with subordinates, colleagues, suppliers, vendors and others in the organization.

Requirements: Required Education and Experience

  • Degree in Business, Operations or Engineering or minimum 5-7+ years prior experience in an industrial manufacturing environment
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office including Excel and Word
  • Experience in quality system audits.
  • Ability to travel occasionally is required.

Preferred Education and Experience: (indicate educated based on requirements that are job related and consistent with business necessity.)

  • Degree in Business, Operations or Engineering
  • Experience implementing Lean manufacturing principles and processes

Supervisory Responsibilities:

 

 

Responsible for 15+ employees.

Work Environment:

 

This position operates in an industrial manufacturing environment.

 

Position Type:

 

 

This is a full time, exempt level position.

 

Physical Demands:

 

This position will require regular walking around the plant for the duration of their day.

The employee must regularly lift and move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
